Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 April 2026

Overview

Fabwriter("we", "us", "our") is a book-writing application. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

Fabwriter operates in two modes with different data-storage characteristics:

  • Free editor— available without an account. Your writing is stored exclusively in your own browser's local storage and never transmitted to our servers.
  • Registered (dashboard) editor — available after creating an account. Your writing, book structure, and settings are synced to and stored on our servers, enabling features such as AI assistance and access from multiple devices.

Information we collect

Writing data (free editor):All chapters, scenes, notes, and settings you create in the free editor are stored only in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device.

Writing data (registered users): When you use the dashboard editor your book content, chapter and scene structure, character notes, and settings are stored on our servers (hosted by Supabase in the EU). This enables cloud sync, AI-assisted features, and access from multiple devices.

Anonymous analytics: When you visit the site we store a randomly generated visitor ID in local storage and log the pages you visit. This data contains no personal information and is used solely to understand how the product is used.

Contact form submissions: If you use one of the contact forms on this site we will receive your message and any email address you voluntarily provide.

Account data (registered users): If you create an account we collect your email address, encrypted password, and any profile information you choose to provide.

Cookies & local storage

In the free editor, we use browser local storage — not traditional cookies — to save your writing and remember your preferences. We also set a single analytics identifier (a random string, not linked to your identity) to count visits.

Registered users additionally have their writing data stored server-side. An authentication session cookie is used to keep you signed in.

See our Cookie & Storage Policy for full details.

How we use your information

  • To provide and improve the Fabwriter service
  • To respond to support or contact requests
  • To send product update notifications you have opted in to receive
  • To understand aggregate usage patterns (anonymous analytics)

We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising purposes.

Data retention

Writing data in the free editor is stored solely in your browser and persists until you clear your browser data or restore a backup from a different source.

Writing data for registered users is stored on our servers for as long as your account remains active. You may export or delete your data at any time from the dashboard, or by contacting us.

Anonymous analytics data is retained for up to 12 months. Account data is retained for as long as your account exists. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate Fabwriter:

  • Supabase — database and authentication hosting (EU region). Subject to Supabase's Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel — web hosting and edge delivery. Subject to Vercel's Privacy Policy.

Your rights

Depending on your location you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data
  • Data portability

To exercise any of these rights please contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the Updates page. Continued use of Fabwriter after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
