Cookie & Storage Policy

Overview
Fabwriter operates in two modes with different storage characteristics:
- Free editor — uses browser local storage to save your writing and preferences entirely on your own device. Nothing in local storage is transmitted to our servers or linked to your personal identity.
- Dashboard editor (registered users) — your writing, book structure, and settings are stored server-side (Supabase, EU region) so they are available across devices and to power AI features. An authentication session cookie is used to keep you signed in.
In both modes we also store a random anonymous analytics identifier in local storage to count visits (see Analytics below).
Server-side storage (registered users)
When you sign in and use the dashboard editor, the following data is stored on our servers (Supabase, EU region):
- Your book title, target word count, and metadata
- Chapter and scene structure
- Scene content (rich text)
- Character and story notes
- Editor preferences and panel layout
This data is associated with your account and is retained for as long as your account is active. You can export or delete it at any time from the dashboard or by contacting us.
Analytics
We log page visits alongside a random anonymous visitor ID. We use this data only to understand which features are being used and to measure overall traffic.
Third-party cookies
Fabwriter does not load any third-party advertising or social-media tracking scripts. Our hosting provider (Vercel) may set infrastructure-level cookies for load balancing; these are strictly necessary and outside our control.
How to clear your data
Free editor: You can clear all Fabwriterlocal storage at any time through your browser's developer tools or settings. Be aware that this will permanently erase your writing from this device unless you have made a backup.
Registered users: Clearing local storage will sign you out and remove any locally cached data, but your writing remains safely stored on our servers. To delete your server-side data, use the export and delete options in the dashboard or contact us.
