Everything you need to know about writing with Fabwriter.
Your first book
When you open the editor for the first time a Chapter 1 with a Scene 1 is created automatically. Click the scene name in the sidebar on the left to open it as a panel in the workspace.
Chapters & scenes
A chapter is a named container that holds one or more scenes. Each scene has its own writing panel. You can have as many scenes per chapter as you like — useful for separating POV sections or time jumps.
Use the chapter sidebar (left edge) to add chapters, add scenes within a chapter, rename them by clicking the name, and drag-to-reorder everything.
Prologue
Click the + button at the top of the chapter list and choose Add prologue. It inserts a special chapter at position 0 that is excluded from the chapter numbering.
Book title & details
Click the pencil icon next to the book title in the toolbar to rename it. Use the Book details button (top-right of the editor) to set your target word count and other metadata.
